Illinois accepts online ordinations and does not require ministers to register with the government. Any ordained minister may perform marriages without prior registration.
Requirements
- Proof of ordination
- Complete and return the marriage license within 10 days
- Be at least 18 years old
Who Can Officiate in Illinois
- Ordained ministers in accordance with their church
- Judges of any court in the state
- County clerks
- Mayors in cities of 500,000 or more
Marriage License Info
Marriage licenses are obtained from the County Clerk. There is a 1-day waiting period. The license is valid for 60 days.
